Even though the photo this painting was based on was taken in Berlin’s Prinzenbad, during the preparations for Nell’aqua nell’aria, it doesn’t belong to this series. While the protagonists of the other paintings seem free, self-assured, and appear to be enjoying themselves, this poor girl is stuck in her body as if it was a punishment. Her dress certainly is. I can feel with her, because I always thought of myself as being chubby, and even though I loved swimming I became very shy and hated to go to the public swimming pool, as retold in La Timide. Another reason why it doesn't belong in the series is the way it is painted, quite freely, with very vivid colors and visible brushstrokes.
