Edition in support of the Volkspalast, Berlin / 2004

In 2004, I was asked to do an edition of artworks for the funding of projects in Volkspalast in Berlin.

All of the artworks were to be called "Volkspalast-shares", which I thought was wrong, since the buyer wouldn't actually hold a share in anything. I therefore decided to make "money". The "money" comes in the form of small, medium and large coins (copper, silver and gold; I made them out of copper, aluminum, and genuine 24-carat gold leaf on aluminum) [1]. The "coins" show the structure above the entrance of the Volkspalast, which used to hold the insignia of the GDR. In the middle of each "coin" I painted a pointillist "1" in different colors.

[1] I was very interested in metals, because I was trying to find the most time-resistant material to paint on for my Mummies, and I had also started to think about Skarbek, mining, and precious metals.
