In Rausch (Frenzy), artists and their friends gather at Basso, Yusuf Etiman’s club in Berlin Kreuzberg’s district, to dance as wildly as possible. This develops into a shared form of expression for a few hours before everyone returns to his or her own specialized work, which is often carried out in isolation. What is not clear is whether the frenzy is brought on by consuming intoxicants or dancing to the music, a post-rave piece specially composed by Arises. In every culture, there are opportunities for people to come together and dance frenetically, often to the point of ecstasy. Usually, additional intoxicants are consumed, from beer to peyote. In our culture, the music, the place, and the dancers’ clothing are, in themselves, a cultural occasion for ecstasy. The film is shown in a wooden construction resembling a megaphone, painted in the primary colors RGB and CMYK.
